Great White Sharks | Guadalupe Island

The place looked sharky — really sharky. And in an instant, my adrenaline kicked into high gear.

Guadalupe Island is arguably the best location in the world to view Great White Sharks.  Liveaboards usually run 5 day expeditions with 3 days of diving. In Guadalupe the season is clearly divided. If you visit in the early months of August through September your boat will most likely be surrounded by  juvenile male sharks, with ocassional visits from large (14-18 ft) males.

As October and November roll in, the large females appear on the islands and when they show all the younger sharks shy away. Weather is usually never an issue once you are in the island (the bay is well protected from northern winds) but the crossings will usually get rougher as the season progresses. Make sure you take good topside lenses for action happening on the surface with sharks, elephant seals and endemic Guadalupe Seals. Although it is recomended you do not have to be certified to scuba to sign up for this trip.
